Why is it so hard to LOVE?
Funny how when you first start out in a relationship it’s so easy to look past certain things because your blinded by LOVE or possibly by lust. Either way these same things begin to drive you nuts later in the relationship. Things that were once easy to look past or grace become a thorn in our side. So, how do you continue to LOVE despite the annoyance?
In this mornings message from Pastor Miles he paralleled the story in the movie The Notebook to a real life couple taking care of their sick child. The message is the same no matter what relationship we are talking about… LOVE people right where they are at in life not where we think they should be.
This week I heard someone was talking bad about me and honestly my first reaction was to defend and crush them with my words. Our words have so much power and sadly we often use them in a negative way… “Don’t lose a minute. Make the first move.” (Matthew 5:25 The Message) these words stopped me in my tracks and I began to think about how I can better handle the situation. Sometimes going to the person can be difficult, embarrassing and even humbling yet when we choose the harder path the reward is much greater. Trust God will give us the words and preparing ourselves to respond in LOVE is not easy.
I know what I must do now… I need to go to this person in LOVE despite my hurt and I must make amends. I am honestly not even certain what will be said or what their reaction might be but I know this message came to me today for a reason. I will go to them and I will be LOVING, kind and gentle no matter what reaction I may face. Life is far too short to allow these things to fester and grow.
Is there someone you need to forgive or is there someone you need to apologize to?
Might I encourage you to not waste another minute and go to the person or people and begin making amends. Take God with you because this is not about you being right, it is just about cleaning up your side of the street.
Go in LOVE and be humble.
I know this task is not going to be easy yet I know for certain it is one that will be rewarding in the end.
